It's alright for a library, went in there to get a photocopy of a paper document and they told me I had to be a member and I had to log onto a computer, all I wanted is a photocopy, won't be going there again lol

6 months agoFrom over three decades I’ve been coming here ,, since then it’s become so run down but it’s fought to stay open and obviously has - I can’t help looking back every time I go and feeling rather sad. Parking of course is easy and being so central to leigh so accessible , there’s a bus stop practically across the road.

1 year agoWent here on a college trip to see the Open Exhibition 2023, and would go back at least 1000 times! It is a small, peaceful gallery with inspiring paintings and cool visual arts. The curator was friendly and happy to answer our questions, it was a real pleasure meeting him! More than well worth half an hour of your time if you happen to be in Leigh.

1 year agoI remember being a child and visiting this place, twas many moons ago and my memories are filled with joy. You see, I wasn't much of a reader (still aren't to be truthful). They had books and arts/crafts that were open to the local children (not sure if it's still running) In recent times however I visited for the "fan zone" which was there for the Euros 2022. (Netherlands vs Portugal game) and THE ATMOSPHERE WAS ELECTRIC! They had dutch beer and table football. I ended up 7-0 (i was the 7) and had a smile on my face the entire time. Leigh library/turnpike will always have a place in my heart and I'm sure that is true for many other people in or around the Leigh area.

1 year agoExcellent service, I needed to print something off, me not being tech savvy had to ask for help, the assistant was so very helpful, extremely knowledgeable and nothing was any trouble unfortunately I didn't ask her name.

1 year agoWent to do some revision but there was no tables or anything so I had to sit on a fairly uncomfortable windowsill, then I wanted to go on a computer but needed a library card, didn't end up getting one because there was no one at the desk for ages and when I asked other staff members they really didnt have time for me, the books there also seem a bit outdated and old, however in the few times I've been it seems their main audience Is the older generation so perhaps they don't need to cater to people doing revision/wanting new books. They only open 10-4 on Saturdays and only one time I have been did they have a table, on this one time there was something happening with tax and they were busy seeing to concerned members of the public and giving me looks for stealing a chair so I just felt guilty for having one. If you want a book the staff will help you, and they seem to have a few events on, when I was sat there I was thinking "this is more of a community center than a library"

2 years agoA brilliant space for all. Energetically and passionately run with a determination to reach all members of the community. So much more offered beyond traditional exhibitions with a huge focus on involving all. Artists and performers from a fantastic mix of the arts, up front hands engaging with the public of; all ages and backgrounds always encouraged. Look for fabulous interactive performances for children, also evolving exhibits which grow through their duration exhibiting, look for local artists displaying their wares as well. The Turn pike is sat within the fabulous brutalist designed Leigh Library building, which itself sits between two of Leighs most splendid of buildings, the Parish Church and the Town Hall, within Leigh Civic Square; you can link your visit to one to the Town Hall Archives another little gem.

3 years agoGreat library. The outside is very marmite, but its chock full of books. The team are all very friendly, they have some funky scanning out machines if you're in a rush. They have a nice fish tank and usually a display of local stuff. The exhibition space upstairs often has on interesting things. Take your kids, take yourself, you'll enjoy it.

4 years agoWhile not a large gallery it is an inventive and engaging one. Really working hard to re-engage with the local community and art circles after a period in the doldrums under local government. Visit now as the ride begins, it looks to be an exciting one.

4 years agoReally helpful in getting a blue badge for my elderly mother, there's a Wigan council life centre there. There's a citizens advice centre too. A nice friendly Leigh welcome, not that there's any other type and loads of community based projects going on. Well done you Leigh folks.
