Upon entering the hotel, I discovered the room was disgusting. It hadn’t been cleaned properly at all—there was dried toothpaste still in the sink, feces stains on the settee, a dead bug on the windowsill, a dirty tea tray, dust all over the lamp, and the skirting board looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. The bathroom was also in very poor condition.
I went down to reception and informed the duty manager, who apologized and assured me she would get me another room, which she would inspect herself.
The new room, which had supposedly been inspected, had a broken light switch that, from an electrical standpoint, should have been condemned. There were also tea stains on the drawer, and the chair had feces stains.
I contacted IHG customer services upon entering the second room and sent photos, etc., to be told that someone from the hotel management team would contact me within the next few hours.
In order to complete some work, I placed a towel on the chair, but I decided not to eat in the hotel due to the disgusting state of the rooms.
No one contacted me that evening, so the following morning I decided against risking the breakfast. I checked out and informed the duty manager that I was expecting someone from the management team to contact me.
Four days later, I contacted IHG customer services again. They informed me that the hotel had tried to contact me at 7:24 a.m. the morning I checked out and had left a message.
I explained that I hadn’t received a call and asked if they thought it was appropriate to contact customers at 7:24 a.m. regarding complaints. They agreed that it was an inappropriate time to call.
Later, I received an email from Heather. In her email, she apologized, claimed she had tried to contact me but couldn’t get through, and thanked me for my understanding.
Unfortunately, I then had the misfortune of speaking to Heather on the phone. She believes 07:24 is a perfectly reasonable time.
After this conversation, I began to understand why the hotel was so dirty. When the person investigating complaints doesn’t even ask for photos before issuing a response, how can the hotel make the necessary improvements?
During the phone call, Heather was rude and asked for the photos so she could reopen the complaint.
So, Heather, here they are!

This hotel is stunning. The customer service is on point, the rooms were immaculate and the complimentary breakfast was decent.
Only gripe i had was the pillows! For me they weren't comfy! Im really fussy when it comes to pillows.

Hosted my mother’s funeral reception and we stayed for a couple of days. Ashleigh and her colleagues were incredibly helpful, professional and friendly. Rooms were a nice size, good temperature and had comfortable beds. Food
was good quality and good value. Parking was easy and free. Expectations were consistently exceeded and the function room was beautiful with a good outdoor space.

We had our 50th wedding anniversary party in the fireside lounge.
From booking the room, buffet and drinks with Ashleigh everything was perfect.
On the night Janice and Tracey went above and beyond to make the evening perfect.

It is always a pleasure to return to the Holiday Inn Express at Leigh Sports Village.
Another fabulous stop over and once again, the staff were excellent; helpful and informative.
Whether your stay is overnight or for a much longer period, I highly recommend the Holiday Inn Express at Leigh Sports Village.

We stayed at this hotel whilst on a Caledonian weekend trip and it was fab all the staff were friendly, food was nice and it was a lovely location! Also perfect for any fans travelling to Leigh leopards stadium! The hotel manager went above and beyond adding a little touch to the room for my mums 70th birthday which made her day! Thanks again to Ashleigh x

A little bit dearer than I normally pay for a hotel but it was near to the location I needed. Very pleasant staff and a good self serve breakfast which was in on the price. The hotel was clean, modern but I think the friendly staff made it even better.

This is a hotel near the Manchester /Bolton area. For appointments in this region, the hotel was selected for good and fast access.
The room I had was clean and well equipped with all the needed facilities. The strange thing was that there were no towels in my room. I had to ask the reception to get me such.
Bottomline is a good hotel with good access to the mentioned area . Also, only 30 minutes away from Manchester Airport.

Stayed there recently. As a Platinum Elite member of IHG group I spend a huge amount of money in Holiday inns in the UK each year. Most hotels upgrade you if possible, don't require a credit cards on check in etc. Here first thing they want is a £50 deposit which only tells me that they don't trust you. After some discussion I paid it. I had no choice. When i left the following day the receptionist advised me that it would be refunded by the end of the day. It wasn't. After asking the hotel 2 days later I was told 12hrs to 3 days for the refund. Now on the 4th day and nothing. Called the bank and they said 10 to 12 days. Utterly disgracefully. Never will I use this hotel again.

This has to be the worst IHG stay I have had. I was not allowed to check in unless I paid £50 extra as a deposit if we wanted anything from the bar. I said we would not be having any food or drink so why do I need to pay it. It’s compulsory. I would not have been allowed to stay if I had not paid it. As a platinum IHG member who should be offered points or drinks vouchers (they would only give one drink voucher , there was 2 of us, which is not the norm in any other organised IHG hotel I have stayed in )Alex the manager was having none of it. The room was £135 , took £185 off my card. Not very clean cracked floor tiles In The bathroom . Headboard dirty , sink dirty, Will not stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is affordable and on the surface looks fine, but lots of things need improving. The room was fine but with a very firm bed - it’s no Premier Inn bed. If you have back issues it may be better to find a Premier Inn. If you don’t like noise, this could be a problem. The room doors slam extremely loudly. There was a door to an adjoining room and the neighbours could be heard laughing at 11:30 and through the night. The hotel did not seem to be full, so why were we in a room with an adjoining door?
Then there is breakfast. Either there are forks and spoons but no knives, knives and little spoons but no forks or big spoons. Everyone had to wait for something, which should just be there. We arrived to find bacon and scrambled eggs but no beans, sausage or hash browns. By the time these arrived the egg was cold. Etc. I’ve stayed three or four times here now and same issue each time. The breakfast service has staff chasing their tails, probably because of inadequate staffing.
The bar is ok except for the very harsh lighting (spot lights). Why any architect would think this creates a relaxing atmosphere, I don’t know. It wasn’t relaxing so we didn’t stay. A small thing, but just lack of attention to detail in designing a hotel.
Overall, there is little choice in Leigh and the hotel rates are affordable but some things could and should be improved. Most things aren’t the fault of any staff and there would be nothing they can do about it.
For the price, it is good value. But I’d rather spend a bit more for something better - bed comfort and noise is extremely important.
If these were addressed I would give it another go and cope with the breakfast lottery.

Great value. Bar and restaurant good..Nice food. Couldn't use the heating in the room as it was very noisy but there was a mobile heater in there to plug in (so imagine this was an existing problem). A few cobwebs about but clean enough. My husband did said there was a musty smell on his corner side of the bed.Good shower and bath.
The front of the building badly needs a clean..it looks sparkly white adverts but in reality is green with algae...not a good impression on arrival and a shame as once through the doors the decor is good.
There is a supermarket on the site and pub nearby.. useful to have if needed.

At check-in I was told a security deposit of £100 had to be taken from my account...I had not budgeted for this excessive amount which in turn completely overshadowed the whole stay. After communication with the hotel manager and administrator, its clear that factors like room type, length of stay etc determine this deposit so would advise anyone thinking of staying here should check with the hotel so you don't get a shock like I did as this sounds like it could change.
I hope the hotel improves the communication and transparency of charges to their guests as it is a good hotel. Clean room (changed a dirty pillow quickly) and breakfast was great.
Real shame.

Situated a little out the way for my usual escapades, but the nightly rate was favourable. The staff are friendly and welcoming throughout the stay. The room was adequate, but cleanliness is somewhat lacking. The shower pressure became a pitiful dribble on more than one morning. The constant slamming of the room doors in the evening needs looking into. The breakfast was adequate, although I'd give the coffee from the coffee machine a miss. Fortunately, there was filter coffee on offer which was much better. Based on my recent stay, I won't be returning any time soon.

It was a very average room. No better than a premier inn. Premier inn at least has better beds than here and some cookies on the table. Beds are way too soft and the breakfast was appalling. Food from the restaurant at night was decent but REALLY pricey. It's 3 star dining at 5 star prices. Air-conditioning was really loud so could not use it at night. Best thing about it is the Morrisons nearby where you can get your dinner if you don't want to max out your credit card on a meal.

Pleasant stay here a few weeks ago. Room was clean and nice size.
Decent all you can eat buffet breakfast included in room price.
Stayed here the night before a Man Utd womens football match so great location just a minute walk across the car park!
Also easy to get to from Manchester by bus and 20 mins walk from Leigh bus station.
Would definitely stay here again next time I visit the area.

I decided to stop on a mid week game so I was not stressed about getting back home with all the train delays or road works . The reception person was very friendly plus helpful the hotel lobby area looked fairly busy but nice clientele so peaceful than rowdy work men but booking in was easy I believe I was located on the second floor the room was spacious also very clean just had the basics just what I need a kettle tea plus coffee there’s a television if you want to watch anything . 2 comfy chairs in the room also the bed was very comfortable so I got a very good nights sleep but I decided to get up when breakfast was served has this was complimentary which was a nice surprise the food was just something nice to start the day with a fresh glass of orange the staff were always pleasant n smiling so I left on good terms maybe il definitely look forward to a return visit has the place is in an ideal location for match days plus the staff have great attitude s so the staff plus the comfy beds also the nice chairs in the room are a positive.

Great location if working at Leigh Sports Village. Service is good, though not always focused. Having stayed here a few times now I can confirm that the WiFi is better the closer you are to reception - being in a room near the end of the wings is a bit detrimental (but quieter).

Never stayed here (but we have seen the rooms and they’re clean and very nice!!). Come here often to enjoy a beer or two with the missus as we live local. Lovely seating area to chill .. however sadly I have to say they won’t accept cash at the bar. Card only :(
Otherwise lovely place to stay or just visit for drinks

Nice HIE. I would stay again.
The rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet. There was an issue with the air circulation (HVAC unit), but staff quickly provided a fan.
There is a grocery store conveniently right next door; as well as a sports stadium.
I have to agree with other reviews that the breakfast is not palatable. Powdered eggs, and the bacon and sausages neither smelled or tasted right. So opted for continental style breakfast, i.e., toast, juice, and coffee.
Parking is included.

I've used this hotel a few times while travelling for work.
Staff are always really friendly and helpful.
On site gym is adequate and has no additional cost.
Parking can be hit and miss if there is an event on at the stadium. This normally clears out later in the evening.
WiFi could be better, hotel was fairly busy on the last stay and WiFi was not accepting any further connections.
Good location with a few restaurants and entertainment in the area if you decide to venture out

I stayed over Ironman weekend so the hotel was fairly busy. The staff were of the highest calibre being friendly and accommodating. The hotel itself is modern and clean. Rooms were spacious and quiet with excellent house keeping. The air con was a little on the noisy side but no complaints otherwise. The restaurant was good with a nice menu and breakfast. The hotel even laid on a special Ironman breakfast at 230am on race day, how's that for service? I won't hesitate to stay again when I am next in Leigh.

This would be a really lovely cheap hotel if you wasn't woken up every 5 minutes be ridiculously loud slamming doors (that you even feel) and if the WiFi wasn't so slow (5mbps). I used to get faster internet back in 2005. Otherwise, the rooms are always clean, the staff are great.

Stayed with a golfing group for 2 nights service and rooms fine. The food however I can honestly say is the worst I have ever experienced in my whole life. On the second night over 50 % of our group of 44 went elsewhere to eat. Breakfast was OK with plenty of choice but lacked mushrooms tomatoes fried eggs and fried bread.Plates were also not warmed and the food quicly went cold. Will not return.

understaffed... Not the staffs fault as they ran around and did the best they could and that's not why they lost a star.... I knocked off a star because the heating didn't work (or the controls where too complex) and the room was was cold... i did find a plug in electric heater but wasn't comfortable leaving this on all the time

Nice, clean and priced just right. Would have been rated great, but there is a hidden £20 authorisation charge for every room. No mention on the website and even though no other facilities are used, they would not allow you to book without the additional charge. Of course it is credited back the following day....taking the liberty

The only reason why I'm not giving 5 stars all around is because there is no phone in the room and it was a bit of a surprise, also the TV could be a bit larger and allow streaming from personal devices.
Other than that is perfect for a quick stop. No frills. But great where it matters.

Stayed from Mon night 8/8/22 to Fri morning 12/8/22 working in the area.
Had my super fast charger go walkies from my room on the 2nd day of my stay. I told management at reception who promised they would make enquiries and either find or replace it.
It wasn't followed through with and I heard nothing before I left to replace it.
Be warned... lock up anything and I mean anything in a safe that you don't want to go missing from your room. Ask for an extra safe if required as they clearly have a security issue.
Other than that the room and food was fine... but yeah... I'm pretty annoyed. It was the only superfast charger I owned. Not cool.

We asked to use a wheelchair, they do not have one. The bed setee was broken so we had to pull the mattress onto the floor. Went for breakfast at 9am and food was running out. Customers kept asking staff for more food. The hotel was clean but i will not stay there again.

Upon arrival I was surprised at the size of the building! Plus the foyer and bar area, there was loud music playing from a wedding no problem good atmosphere. Then things go down hill, I was given a room infested with spiders ? lots of them all over the window and wall obviously that was the first thing I went to open, there's no way any cleaner touched this room and deep cleaned it as they say especially given the pandemic... Had to go back downstairs with all my suitcase and bags, given another room a few doors down after hauling my luggage back upstairs the card didn't work, so then I had to go back downstairs! So back to my room finally get in and unfortunately same things again. The window along the top has been sealed with duck tape where there would be a vent so it's quite obvious this isn't a problem they don't know about. I went back to reception and the woman could only say no one can check the room and they can't give me another! Tried to tell me it's because they have had hot weather. Clearly the place is infested and these are not your normal garden spiders they look foreign could even be Australian scary sizes and patterns on the bodies. There are splat marks in the room on walls and roof from the last victims. Do check the photos sorry if you have a phobia of spiders. To top all that off there was a fire alarm, which we were told to go outside the building for, however it was an accident by someone.
