Unfortunately, this hotel does not even deserve a single star.
We stayed here in July 2022. We arrived in the late afternoon and they told us that our room wasn‘t ready yet, for which we were promised a partial refund that never happened. When we were finally able to get to our room, the room was messy and the duvet was covered in glitter because a bride had previously used the room and it had not been cleaned afterwards. Someone also tried entering our room in the middle of the night because they, for some unknown reason, had an additional key card, which was a really unpleasant and scary experience. The room itself was dirty and very outdated with cracked furniture, the beds were also really uncomfortable. Additionally, we could hear everything that was going on in the hallway, including, but not limited to, the other guests screaming/fighting in the middle of the night, the constant banging of doors etc.
Overall, we would not recommend staying here, in fact we would strongly advise people to stay as far away from this hotel as possible.

This was the worst hotel room I have ever booked. Here’s why:
-They gave us the wrong key to start with
- The hallway smelt like weed
- There are scratches on every wooden surface
- There were stains on the walls, ceiling, floor, sopha, and chair.
- The mirror above the taps had old toothpaste stains on it 🤮
- The bathroom was tiny, dirty, and also smelt like weed
- One if the given cups were open and dirty 🤮
- I could not sleep all night because it was absolutely boiling hot (it was raining outside and all heaters were off)
- The lampshades were wonky
- Finally, as soon as I walked in the room there was a bag over the smoke alarm!!
This room had obviously not been checked since the last person arrived. I am very cross as this was a total waste of money! I do not recomend!!!

None of the features listed are available here. There is no breakfast service, no restaurant, nothing you see listed. I booked a two night stay here and ended up having to buy two Pot Noodles from the garage across the road so that I could at least quell my hunger.
I'm told there is a cafe around the corner from the hotel that I should be able to get some breakfast in the morning, but that's it. Hopefully I'll at least be able to get some breakfast in the morning. I'm so glad I only booked two nights here.
Staff are nice and are as helpful as what's available for them to be helpful with. I just want these two nights to be over with...

1st time staying at this hotel, reception was nice, clean and modern, the staff are nice and friendly, the bar was good had a nice selection of alcohol, the hallways could do with sprucing up I.e. fresh paint new carpet etc., room was nice little dated but it was fine fresh clean sheets, bed was comfortable could do with modernizing again fresh paint and new carpets, be good if they had USB wall sockets, would definitely stay here again

What a shame. Due to having family in the area, we have visited the Greyhound frequently, and unfortunately, this will be our last visit. We attended a wedding here around ten years ago and stayed in the hotel, and I don't believe anything has been done to the building since. We stayed for one night and as you can see, the quality of the rooms needs serious attention. One of the rooms in our party in fact could have been against the law to use as a fit room for guests due to the fire door not automatically closing. The mattresses are like laying on paving slabs and the fixed fittings look like they have all been used as chopping boards. Upon the evening and visiting the bar, we were met with stale beer that seems to have been in the lines for a while and the local regular. The regular was seen scuttering across the floor and upon mentioning this to the staff, we was informed that the name of the rat was "Boris" and he often can be seen when the pub is quiet. We paid for the cooked breakfast in the morning, to be told, at 0900 that they had ran out of beans, mushrooms, hash browns and what ever was left out was the last of the food when they state breakfast is supposed to finish at 1030. Also, they advertise on the extremely tired sign out front that they have a pool, sauna, and steam room. They advertise this, but there is a sign on the front desk mentioning that all the aforementioned are permanently closed. We did receive a refund for the breakfast, but that was all. It is such a shame that this hotel has declined over the years as we have frequented it many times, but as mentioned, we will not be returning. There are plenty of hotels in Leigh and by the sports village which are reputable chains and you will receive a base level of quality which far supersedes that of the Greyhound. The staff were actually rather pleasant, excluding the gentleman serving the food, but this is not enough to warrant a return in the future.

If "needed a makeover" was a place. I feel for the amazing staff that have to try their best in a run-down place like this. Great service from the staff hence the generous rating otherwise like the Rona, avoid. The showers are sad.

You get what you pay for with this place. We only stayed for 1 night and definitely wouldn't have stayed another. The bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were flat. The whole place could do with a massive touch-up. The restaurant/bar was manned by kids who were more interested in their phones than in serving. We ordered food which was from the taste of it from a local Chinese, the chips were flat and very salty. We got a refund on our breakfast as did a lot of other customers. Some of the reception staff were spot-on and helpful but overall we couldn't wait to get out. They also advertised a swimming pool and spa but none of these was open.

Very disappointed with the whole experience. Arrived only to be given a key to an occupied room. The receptionist was very apologetic but the damage was done. The room I was eventually given was on the top floor. The room was tired and in desperate need of decorating and it smelt terrible. I have since found out the hotel had been housing the homeless during the pandemic.
I had to complain to the staff at breakfast as a young lad handled the bacon and sausages. As no one was supervising the hot food counter. So I had to reprimand the lad for not using the food tongs. Needless to say I won't be stay at this hotel again.

You get what you pay for, budget hotel the. The week I was there the swimming pool was out of action, it did not say how long it would be out of action for. Rooms very basic could do with an upgrade very dated and one of my two opening Windows was expansion foam shut , other than that the staff were pleasant the bar was ok food was ok good location but can be a bit noisy at night with boy racers.

Rather sleep in my car , tried to overcharge me by £20. Breakfast? You'd eat better out of a skip, reception staff didn't even acknowledge Me and as I was staying in a group i knew it wasn't just me . Steer clear

I’ve stayed in cheaper hotels that have been better. There was so much wrong with this hotel, do not be fooled by the entrance. Modern marble flooring on approach, ugly dirty red carpets in bedrooms. It’s like once you go through the double doors, you enter an older century. On opening our room door, there was a white stain on the carpet, the carpet is dirty/stained, we could hear something dripping (the shower) which on use of- was bloody cold on the hot setting, near the sink has a hole that’s been barely covered up, a lick of paint would have done no harm, and would have resulted in one less complaint. The furniture is older than my great great great grandparents and definitely unnecessary, there was a broken socket in which the electrics are. This one particularly shows absolutely no regards to the visitors- my stay was with 2 young children, imagine if we weren’t so observant and they stuck their fingers in it. One of the windows was stuck permanently open due to a broken- well none existent handle, letting in the cast of bugs life in, the sofa in the room was strained, meant to be light brown more like chocolate brown in sections.
Finally just to top of my oh so lovely visit, it absolutely stunk of musk. Like the century it should have stayed in.

This place is disgusting, the rooms are grubby, dated and smelly. WiFi broken, lifts broken, pool OOA and no air con. I moved rooms 3 times due to noise, poor maintenance and smell, was upgraded to a so called suit however I would not sit on the sofa in the room because it looked like it came from a skip, no temp control on the shower (just hot) and TV didn't work properly. Beds uncomfortable, there was a smell of damp in the corridors the place needs a deep clean, decorating and the old damaged furniture replacing. Rude barstaff with zero people skills, do not stay here, its cheap however they should pay you to stay here in this health hazard.

Very tired and dated and at £52 for B&B for two we weren't expecting much, just somewhere to sleep. But the room felt grubby, there was water constantly leaking in the bath, no form of soap provided and only one towel for two people! The TV didn't work and the ironing board had no cover - just a metal frame. It was like staying in faluty towers!!
All of this could have been overlooked if we had gotten a good night sleep but the mattress is one of the worst I've ever had the displeasure of sleeping on and the pillows flat as pancakes. And to top it off there were no hot drinks available at breakfast

Wow, where to begin with this little gem , lost in the 80s. The people who own this place (sporting lodge apparently) should be , and probably are utterly ashamed of the place. The staff try their best and are nice enough, but this place needs starting again. If ypu want to see what hotels looked like 40 years ago, and serve yourself a cold breakfast , it may have some merit .

Amazing place! The housekeeping does a fantastic job while Nastasha and her team are extremely cooperative at the desk. The hotel has an well stocked bar and ample parking space too. I was here for the Ironman Bolton UK and the swim begins at the Pennington Flash which is at a decent distance from here. Loved the stay and most recommended.

Thanks to The Greyhound Hotel Leigh to make my fathers day weekend so bad.
First when we checked in asked for a late checkout and about the pool they had a private party which is fine, okay having a private party today we will enjoy it tomorrow (thoughts).
Trying to get to the room the lift is not working, right another set back had to go up the steps with the bags and baby pram, as getting into the room the room is completely outdated.
Next day comes we trying to get to the pool the pool is closed !!!
and to finish even in a better way we had to leave early because on Sunday's they don't do late checkouts and no one else told as when we did check-in.
Thanks again for destroying my father's day with my family

The rooms where adequate as thw hair dryer smelt like burning plastic. We booked for a family of 5. When we arrived a young couple was stood outside smoking weed. There was only 2 sets of towels and only 2 beds made up. The kid's went to use the pool this was extremely dirty and the lifeguard was no where to be seen. The toilet handle was broken and I've never been to a hotel or b&b that doesn't supply shower gel or shampoo even if it is the multipurpose in a pump on the wall. There is a lift but this is only suitable for 2 people. We did sit down to eat but the waitresses was extremely rude and took her time in the end we stood up and ate elsewhere needless to say I'm glad we ate elsewhere fron the meals i seen coming out that kitchen. As both me and my partner work in the hotelier industry we did not expect big things however we didn't expecr it to be that bad either. Not sure if the stars I have gave is me being crazy or nice. Enjoy your stay in the dirt filled rooms.

Tired hotel. My room had a window that would not shut and corrosion around the tap. Door was a bit of a mess. No provision for deaf people in case of fire alarm. Having said this the hotel is conveniently placed for travel in the area. It has a large car park. The staff looked a bit tired of working there but I can say they were trying really hard to be helpful. And for that they should be congratulated.
I would stay there again if I was in the area as the cost did reflect the conditions.

The double room cost £50 so I wasn't expecting ultimate luxury . I have stayed here before so that must give some indication that its not all bad. The room is warm and spacious with immaculate white bedding. The mattress isn't top quality feather and fully sprung , but it does a good night sleep . The bathroom was spotless clean and again quote a good size . Wardrobe spacious and plenty of coat hangers. Lovely long unit to put my suitcase on and well lit dressing table area don't expect loads of biscuits and coffee and you won't be disappointed. Some noise from the main road outside but I didn't think it was overly intrusive. I slept in the wing over looking the pub car park. Staff we friendly in arrival .so it is a good quality for the room rate from me

I've known the Greyhound hotel for many years, as I lived in Leigh for 23 years. Back in the 80's it had such an amazing reputation, silver service and the like.
Today though I've got to say, why haven't you updated the hotel since then? It has the same dark wood furniture. Which I have no issues with but decor is in dire need of repair and a lick of paint.
Everything has been done on the cheap, from the tiny TV to the cheap toilet paper.
We are here in the hotel for 5 nights and at a cost of enough to give us as paying guest better quality toilet paper.
I would like to say that the bed is comfortable though and the place is always clean.
I beg The greyhound hotel to listen to your guest (previous reviews are on the same lines) and take action! As I say I've been coming here for years visiting family in the area and feel now I need to say my piece.
