Great, friendly service from the attentive staff. Food was decent, with nice mains and dessert. Very happy with the meal and the environment. The staff also were keen to point out any allergen info and asked if we had any food allergies before ordering. A nice pub, with plenty of seating spaced out so you never feel cramped. It has outdoor seating too if you prefer to sit outside.

2 weeks agoThe staff are absolutely brilliant and are genuinely first class for service and attentiveness. Overall, the food is first class and we've had little to no issues. If I were to be really fussy the only issue we've had was an overcooked steak. This was replaced really quickly and the staff couldn't apologise enough. Each time we've been, the atmosphere has been great. Warm, welcoming, busy but not too noisy. I've not been when a match has been on at the nearby stadium so can't comment on that. One last issue that does grate with me is the lack of a good, stout, mild, bitter.

4 weeks agoOutstanding customer service, and excellent food. We arrived unannounced as a large group (attending a dance comp at Leigh Leisure centre, and a couple of hours to kill between performances) we was doubtful if they would be able to accommodate us, however there was no issues at all. Found us two large tables near each other (one for the teenagers, one for the adults) We kind of assumed we may have to wait a while for food, with there being 20 of us, but the wait was no longer than normal. We ordered from the app, which was easy and straightforward to use. The food was excellent, generous potions, good quality and nice and hot. The guy who served us was lovely and pleasant as was the lady who seated us on arrival. 10 out of 10 all round. Lovely venue, nice clean and welcoming, hopefully will visit again soon. Thank you

4 weeks agoExceptional service friendly and attentive staff. Food was excellent well presented and very tasty. Loved how they looked after families with their dogs how they straightaway brought a bowl of water for the dog. It was lovely to see and hear the interactions with regulars. Will definitely be coming back. It was a excellent experience and I can't recommend the pub to anyone

2 months agoIt was my first time visiting. Place looks nice. But I was very disappointed with their pizzas, very slim not alot of sauce or cheese, felt like eating crackers. Very stingy 😕 for that price I would of got better even large size pizza from any takeaway.

2 months agoGreat service from Elle and the staff today. Great food, table service and really friendly staff. Making sure all was ok throughout our lunch. Best service I’ve experienced in a long time. Well done. We’ll be back soon. Fab pudding too Sherry Trifle Cheesecake!

2 months agoLovely friendly staff the pub was really clean and lots of places to sit. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and shown a table. Served very quickly with drinks and food order taken. The food was very hot and really nice. I would highly recommend and will be going back again in the future.

3 months agoWe came for Christmas Dinner. We had a great table and the place was not too busy which made it more comfortable. The service was done in good time and Gemma always ensured we were happy and had drinks when needed. Food was delicious, it was nice to have a vegetarian option that was not mushroom based as that seems to be the preference for a lot of restaurants which is unfortunate. May consider next year if the menu is suitable. Thank you.

3 months agoMy wife and I have just had a perfect Christmas experience with the Whistling Wren. It has been nothing short of perfect. Steph catered for our every need, ensuring we had a perfect day. The supporting staff, whether serving our food or drinks were equally respectful. The food was delicious; our compliments to the chef and their team. Easily the best in Leigh. We live close by and we will return. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

3 months agoI've not been in for a long time and it looks the same as previously. The drinks still seem a little overpriced when you are paying £8 for two soft drinks, but could be worse I guess. The food was just average pub food, gammon was chewy but then it was somewhat overcooked. Didn't complain as they were run off their feet. However when I went to pick my handbag up off the floor I was given the ick to see the snail / slug trails all over the carpet. Surely they would be gone when the place is cleaned but there were a LOT. Hard to capture on a photo but took a couple to try and capture it.

4 months agoFabulous, they managed to fit me and the kids in on a busy Saturday tea time having not booked a table, where some places may have just turned us away. They did need the table back for a later booking and so Steph our server was amazing, she got our food pushed to the front of the queue in the kitchen to get it brought out. When it arrived the food was great, good portion sizes and my eldest really enjoyed the Mac 'n' Cheese. 5 stars all round 😀

4 months agoNever had an issue. Staff have always been friendly, welcoming and helpful. Always recommending meals, activities and promoting upcoming events. We came this afternoon and left looking forward to Mrs Claus looking after the kids on Boxing Day

4 months agoThe 30% off offer was on and it was packed. We booked greeted warmly by steph. Our order was taken at the table by Steph who kept us updated as it was taking a little longer than usual due to the amount of customers. She was pleasant and very attentive. Jason was also serving us and regularly asked if we were ok and if we needed a thing. A really nice night out on a chilly November night

Food was lovely and good selection of fraught beers & wines. Really great experience and with being new to the area, it’s good to know it’s so local and my son is still entertained!

5 months agoFirst of all, I would like to point out the service we received from Jay in particular, bearing in mind it was only his first or second shift was excellent. You could see he tried very hard to be as attentive to us as possible, which he achieved. The food was very nice, no complaints at all. Overall, I would highly recommend the whistling wren for a nice night out for a meal. Will definitely return.

6 months agoOur server Steph was amazing! Her customer service was outstanding from our group walking in and throughout our session. Steph needs to be acknowledged for her cheery demeanour, hard work and dedication to all her customers. The food was great and we all had a wonderful time.

6 months agoIt was so busy due to the rugby, but it was so well organised, plenty of staff, who all knew what they were doing, worked so hard and smiled even though they were run off their feet. the singer outside was a nice touch. 7 months agoI ordered a Sunday roast beef and it was very tasty but right when I started eating my surprise was the amount that came of beef maybe 50 grams? I was surprised by the amount of meat that came, I'm a person of just over 50 kilos and I imagine what this protein would be for someone who asks for between 70 and 80 kilos will definitely leave hungry. The staff is very very friendly and efficient, the pub has a pleasant atmosphere the food was tasty but the amount left me with the certainty that I will not eat the Sunday roast again.

7 months agoMy partner and I visited today with my toddler and my newborn. We were served by Elise and Steph; and honestly, we couldn't be more happy with the service we received. There's potential to have a tricky time when taking a toddler to a restaurant, but they both included our daughter in conversations, gave us plenty of time to decide on meals, and offered crayons and pictures to colour for my little girl to keep her distracted whilst we ate. They were friendly, approachable and nothing seemed too much. The food was amazing, as always; and not at all expensive. I cannot recommend this place enough; and honestly, a huge thank you to the staff that served us today for your patience 😀

She took her time to make sire we had all we needed and engaged with the children in a lovely way. She made the experience even better than it already was. 7 months agoWe visited the whistling wren last night for the quiz, the team are great nothings to much trouble for them! We really enjoyed the music quiz (although we didn't win ) and the food was delicious. Reasonable priced, good menu and nice atmosphere. A special mention to Beth and the team for looking after us and Jordan for hosting a belting quiz !

8 months agoWe couldn't contact using the QR code on feedback for service hence this note. Jordan served and looked after four of us for the evening in a full and noisy pub, finding and setting up a quiet table just after Leigh Leopards fans left for the match, he's polite, recommended items, brought drinks to the table and cleared used glasses away. He is efficient and knowledgeable. We all felt he's an asset not only to the pub but, more importantly, to the company.

9 months agoPopped in whilst visiting relatives. Right next to our hotel. Really friendly staff from the minute we walked through the door. Showed us to a table and took our drinks order straight away. Really good selection on the menu. Food arrived piping hot in no time, despite the place being really busy. Special thanks to Steph who ensured we were well looked after and she was so friendly as well. Would highly recommend.

9 months agoVisited The Whistling Wren, Leigh for lunch with 3 friends on 10/7/24. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Service, food and drinks were very good. We all had special offer Madras Currys with loaded chips on the side with pints of Pedigree or Wainwright's cask beer. Excellent.

He was polite, respectful, very helpful and accommodating. He took excellent care of us and we would highly recommend him. The food was enjoyable and the atmosphere was great.

9 months agoSteph was our meet and greeter, very accommodating as 7 of us turned up without booking. Seated immediately. I had the hunter's chicken which was lovely. Bar staff were very good too. They were all rushed off their feet as parents/carers turned up whose kids were at their prom at the sports village.

10 months agoWe were served by Steph, she was amazing and looked after us from the moment we arrived until we finished. She was really friendly and went above and beyond with making sure our children had things to do and including them. She took our orders quickly and service was fast and good. The food was great and brought to us in a timely manner. Over all it was a nice meal out on father's day.

10 months agoPoor steak and chips. Steak tasted like it was very burt and bitter. Had a horrible acride taste. Very tendern and juice just the steak tasted v bitter from the horrible grilled taste. Poor for £16. Would not recommend any of the steaks. Donner kebab was lukewarm and greasy. Looked great on the eye but tasted horrible like a reheated frozen donner :-( wasted £100 for meal for 4

11 months agoExcellent Sunday tea at Whistling Wren. We were met by lovely Amy on entering and quickly taken to our table. Amy took our drinks order and also food order as we had already decided what we would have. Drinks were brought over shortly. Amy informed us there could be 30 mins wait as it was busy which wasn’t a problem but the lovely food arrived within 15 minutes. My steak was cooked just to my liking and my Mrs had Sunday dinner which was equally lovely and was a very large plateful. Amy called regularly to check on us as always to make sure everything was good and if we needed a drink top up. Absolutely perfectly day with lovely people and lovely food. Very recommended!

11 months agoThe food was really nice and the service was exceptional, particularly as the pub was busy due to a major sporting event at the stadium next door. Our waitress Steph was very friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was good. Would recommend to a friend in the area.

11 months agoVery good menu selection. Staff were super helpful and cheerful. Very efficient from start to finish. Food was great although would have liked more mushy peas with my scampi. Good playing area outside for the kids. My daughter was particularly impressed with how mindful the staff were about allergies. We were asked by staff about anyone with allergies. My grandson is lactose intolerant. The staff member listened intently to my daughter's concerns and we were super impressed with the little allergen stick that was in his burger. On the downside there weren't many deals available like 2 for 1. Also, that little playing area inside with the touch screen tvs and jelly bean machine could be better. My grandson also has autism. I would have preferred it to be more sensory and tactile than it was. I think it could be beneficial to children with such disabilities. Other than that we enjoyed being there yesterday. Will definitely be back again.

11 months agoCan't fault the whistling wren...well priced, decent pub food , speedy and friendly, efficient service. You sometimes have to wait a while for food when really busy but been a regular customer for some time and never had any complaints. The staff are all genuinely nice and friendly and Steph who served us this evening was really good, attentive without being overbearing.

1 year agoOur waitress, Gemma, was very helpful and friendly and provided a prompt service. Our food arrived quickly and it was very good. We had a sharing nacho starter followed by surf and turf and a mega mixed grill. Both meals were very good and great value too. I would definitely recommend your restaurant.

1 year agoWe were here the Easter Sunday and had the Sunday roast. We had lamb shank which was recommended by Steph who was an an amazing waitress and made us feel welcome. Good value for money and is right next to the hotel. Would recommend eating here if you are at Leigh Sports Village.

1 year agoMy wife and I were at the Leigh Valley sports stadium to watch Man United v Leicester and I'd looked online for nearby eateries, I didn't realise it was on their doorstep. So once the game was over we went for Sunday Lunch, it's a good job we'd booked earlier online as it was busy. We were shown to our table which I'd asked for Wheelchair access and asked if we wanted any drinks, while waiting we looked at the vast menu. I chose Roast Beef and Yorkshire pud with trimmings and my wife chose Roast with Turkey, our meal arrived and it was plentiful for the price. The food was very well presented and hot (just right), my Broccoli was a little bit tough but the Yorkshire Pud was homemade and crisp (where some can be small and soggy). We were asked by the staff if we were okay with the food during eating and once finished our plates cleared and we were asked if we wanted desserts/Coffee? We didn't as we'd had a starter (Prawn Cocktail), we paid and was asked if we'd been happy with service/food if we'd leave a review. So this is it, very happy with the experience and would definitely return.

1 year agoThere was a rugby match one at the stadium next door. We were warned that there was a 40 minute delay on food. However we ordered just a couple of minutes after we wee seated and our drinks came soon after. Our starter came promptly and our main course came in due course. The food was very good and the service was brilliant. A most enjoyable experience!

1 year agoWent to the Whistling Wren with my 2 children as a lunch treat in the summer holidays. The food was delicious. Fresh made pizzas and the burgers were lovely. There's a little outside play area which is handy when visiting with kids. The service was fantastic, we had Gemma for our waitress. She did a fantastic job, nothing too much trouble and service was quick. Will be back again.

1 year agoThis is my local pub/restaurant and our favourite place. Food is always lovely, staff are really friendly and atmosphere is lovely too. It would be fantastic if they had a pool table so me and my hubby could have a game.

1 year agoEmployee no. 60000589 - Allan Marsh I went for a breakfast at The Whistling Wren, Leigh on Saturday morning before heading off to the RL semi-final. I ordered a large breakfast for me and a bacon bap for my friend. The breakfast is one of the worst meals I have ever had. Let me break it down. Bacon: supposed to be two rashers. I eventually found what was supposed to be my bacon, slithering in one corner of my plate. It was two halves of a very very fatty slice of streaky bacon and I use the word bacon very sparingly. Sausage: there were four of very poor 'value' quality sausages and tasteless. They were very much undercooked. Eggs: two fried eggs with hard yolks. These had obviously been per-cooked and warmed up. A dangerous practice which I will get on to later. Hash Browns: Four of the thickest hash browns that I have ever seen. They were very brown on the outside, but cold on the inside. Obviously unsuccessfully microwaved. After tasting, I left them Mushroom: At first I thought they were missing. Then I spotted them, hidden by the hash browns. Around a dozen of them, individually the size of a pea and tasteless. Baked Beans: these were actually OK. I did not take back as the place was filling with customers and very few staff about and I didn't have the time. Over the day I began to get very uncomfortable stomach pains which got gradually worse. After the game when all my friends celebrated i had to go home. It really was pathetic.

Gemma quick as a flash offered him a surprise toy & put a smile back on his face. I don’t often write reviews but these staff deserve the credit ?

1 year agoFood was spot on. My daughter ordered the jelly and ice cream and wasn't impressed when it came with fruit in the jelly. Gemma noticed and was amazing got her smiling again and did a quick fix! Absolutely amazing nothing was too much trouble. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️?

1 year agoWe were welcomed by a friendly waitress who showed us to our table. We ordered drinks and then studied the menu. The waitress asked if we needed any assistance which we didn't. We ordered our food and then sat back for a chat. Within a very reasonable time our meals were on the table in front of us to savour and enjoy. We did,!

1 year agoDespite being a busy evening our food order came very quickly. Our waitress, Amy, was amazing. Despite having several tables, she greeted us with a smile, was attentive to our needs and ensured everything was fine. She is a huge credit to the establishment and we feel should be proud of her dedication to the job she was doing.

2 years agoWe came in for lunch and enjoyed it very much, then as football was too cold we returned for tea it was extremely busy having a birthday party group as well as general public we didn't book tea time but was welcomed explained of a wait and busy which we could see. Offered a table with a reasonable time scale due to further booking we accepted ordered ate and done in this time the meal was fresh and hot and the ladies serving although run off their feed where pleasant apologetic on food time scales but very attentive and professional well done all great visit we will return on our next holiday inn stay thank you

2 years agoWent for lunch with my Mum on Wednesday 28th Dec. was greeted by Abbie. Who sat us at our table and served us from start to finish. Which was a dream. She gave us excellence service and helped my mum with the Menu. Food was fantastic. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Gotta say Abbie was a breath of fresh air and gave us A1 service. A lot of places I’ve been lately have had really bad service. Superb ?

2 years agoNice pub with nice food, prices on food are pretty reasonable for meals, drinks are a bit high priced compared to some of other nearby pubs. There’s a beer garden too which is alright on warmer days we tend to call in for one drink after walking the surrounding area such as the canal pathways or Pennington flash… it’s also right next to Leigh sports village. It’s a dog friendly pub too which is good if your out dog walking like me and you want to call in ? staff which are friendly usually offer to get a bowl of water for my dog and biscuits sometimes ?

2 years agoExcellent pub and service, highly recommend. Sam was great and really friendly, pleasant staff all round. The guy behind the bar was really nice, offered us pizza even though the food service had officially closed, was so appreciative as we were starving and it was so nice. We sat outside as it was a warm evening, beer and pizza together was gorgeous. Thank you Whistling Wren, we will be back very soon.... Terry & Sam. X

2 years agoHi the service was good and staff were friendly, the food was good, when the food came it was cold, so we had to return and when they got us another one it was served hot. The pizza was lovely, would recommend. The dessert was a disappointment, the sponge pudding was not soft and fluffy. Hope this helps. Thanks

3 years agoLovely food, nice vegan menu too. Restaurant was warm and inviting. Abbie was our server and was lovely. We visited again today. Mike was our server. He was fantastic! Sad to see that things have been removed from the vegan menu but Mike went above and beyond to still make something from the old menu. Thanks Mike ? friendly staff and nice atmosphere as usual!

3 years agoLovely visit as usual. Food was delicious and came out quickly. All the staff seemed great and very friendly. Beth greeted us at the door, she was friendly and had a chat with my little boy whilst we was being seated. She went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. Would definitely recommend to everyone.

3 years agoMike was a very helpful and reliable waiter/barman He looked after us with a smile on his face. Great sense of humour. Nothing was to much trouble. Made our first experience at the whistling Wren very enjoyable. The food was lovely too. We will certainly comeback again

3 years agoWe had a fantastic experience with Beth. Nothing was too much trouble despite our multiple specific requests. Everything was brought out as expected. The kids caused havoc but she didn't mind. She was always polite, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for everything 1

3 years agoHad a lovely evening with friends. The pizzas were gorgeous as was the pasta Alfredo. Staff were amazing, friendly and very attentive. Definitely be going back. Just one thing need to get the lemon sponge and custard on kids menu on the adult menu ?

3 years agoNot visited the pub in a while and was very pleasantly surprised. Decor was good. Very clean and welcoming - a lovely atmosphere. The food was delicious and the staff - in particular Gemma - were lovely. Great service. Very policies and friendly. Will certainly be back soon. Highly recommend a visit.

3 years agoFood was good. Typical pub grub. Charged extra for sweet potato fries which was not advertised. Drinks were pricey. Lovely server bought my husband a drink as it was his birthday - I didn’t get his name though. He was brill, unfortunately not our server the whole time here.

3 years agoA table of 8 and fantastic service from Gemma ?? Great food that was fresh and really good quality. Had the mega mixed grill that was fantastic and the kids loved their meals too. Really accommodating of my wife's allergies and intolerances so she was able to have a great meal too, very impressed as usually a source of much frustration and disappointment when trying to eat out. Oh, did I say that Gemma was great?

3 years agoAbsolutely amazing establishment. Always greeted with smile. Our visit I was greeted by a lovely young man called josh. Showed us to our table and took a drinks order. Drinks arrived on point. We were given extra time because my girlfriend is a bit fussy. Never complained did josh even though he was busy. Came back with a smile, made us feel homely. Food amazing Service amazing Cleanliness of the pub amazing 100% will come back

3 years agoThe wife and I enjoyed our visit to The Whistling Wren on Saturday. It was recommended by a good friend of ours and it lived up to its reputation. We will be revisiting The Whistling Wren in the very near future. We shall also recommend The Whistling Wren to all our friends as well. The food was good, hot and plenty.

3 years agowe booked a table on line, it was very easy. we were greeted at the door strait away. and shown to our table, no waiting. food was served hot. we were looked after by Beth very friendly and helpful.

3 years agoFamily of 5 people went for evening Meal, Staff very attentive and service was excellent. Food was if excellent quality and good value for money. Highly recommend the sirloin steak which was cooked to our taste , drink choices also very good especially the glass refill for children. Certainly go back.

3 years agoGreat Sunday carvery and plenty of it! Great little place. Last year had about 2 items on menu I could eat! This year menu change, only about 2 I can't eat now. Great!

3 years agoLovely pub/restaurant. Table service excellent, prompt and attentive. Food good, all correct warm and delivered together for a party of 9. Went to order drinks at bar and all staff were busy completing orders, no customers at bar except us. and we were ignored for a good 5 minutes, even a hello, won't keep you a minute, apology but no, not even eye contact even when stood directly in front of us. Minor training issue with staff and didn't impact on a lovely night, would happily return and recommend.

3 years agoI like this place. A very relaxed atmosphere for an afternoon. I had the tagine which was very nice, and plenty of it. The main reason I go though is probably the pedigree bitter. Marvellous stuff.

3 years agoGood food and friendly staff. Nice outdoor seating. Make sure to book a table if there is a match going on at LSV stadium as it is a great place to go before or after attending a match.

3 years agoGreat service and lovely food. Only downside was the burger are the thin ones but the other meals are very nice. A great place to go out for a spot of lunch or dinner. Definitely go again

3 years agoLove the wren but was extremely disappointed with the steak tonight, it was so tough! Was offered complimentary drinks and my steak was removed from the bill. Hubby had mega mixed grill, he left nearly all his meat as it was all tough but we paid in full for his. Thanked the manageress on the way out for what she did do but she comletely ignored both of us. Cheers.

3 years agoGreat staff...food was to a great standard of 'pub grub'...we had some issues with paying the till had switched off, but they let us go without paying part of the bill!! Will be back to spend the rest.

3 years agoStaff were very polite but, unfortunately, service was incredibly slow, even for drinks. The Sunday roast and the steak and ale pie were dreadful. The chicken was dry and the rest was obviously microwaved. The pie had virtually no meat in the filling and the pastry was rank. We took the chicken home for the cats who seemed to appreciate it more than we did. Needless to say, we won't be going back ?

3 years agoDisappointed for the second week running, last week are food was delayed because the server did not place our order. We did get an apology and a discount which was fine. Today the service very slow, the servers where not attentive. We where sat outside. After waiting 10 to 15 minutes and failing to attract a servers attention I had leave my table and walk into the path of a server to gain her attention. This worked we placed our order and waited patiently for a hour and twenty minutes, again I had t0 leave my table to attract the servers attention and was told the kitchen had a backlog . After another 15 to 20 minutes the food arrived . My wife noticed she should have had a dipping sauce with her meal . She asked a different server for the dipping sauce and was told she was get it for her. My complaints are :- 1. Poor service 2.Slow kitchen service 3.Condiment and cutlery buckets not stocked properly. 4.No apology from the server who did not bring my wife's dipping sauce. She was at our table when I complained to our main server about this matter We have been many times to the whistling wren and recommended you to family and friends but I am sorry to say we certainly will not be recommending or visiting your establishment again. To me the kitchen's efficiency and the service to outside customers needs looking at. Goodbye

Thank you to all the staff for going out of their way so readily to help me with seating needs as someone who has a disability.

3 years agoI've been here since the recent re opening. Obviously due to covid you can only sit outside at the moment, but the outside area has been well organised with people spaced adequately apart. You have to reserve a table as it gets busy. Staff are great and the food was lovely. Highly recommended.

With all that is going on at the moment and all the changes and precautions that has to be in place to keep all safe they are doing an amazing job. So polite and smiling through it.
